Posted .

As a teen, you might be self-conscious about many things. Your smile doesn’t have to be one of them. If you take diligent care of your oral health, then you’ll be on the right track toward the beautiful smile you deserve. To help you keep your oral health in tip-top shape, Grant R Young DDS encourages you to practice the following habits:

Keep up on oral hygiene: Oral hygiene is absolutely essential for oral health. You know the drill: brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, and for an extra boost, rinse your mouth with mouthwash every day. Also, remind your parents to schedule a visit with Dr. Grant R Young every six months for a routine cleaning and exam. All of these tasks can help you have the stunning and healthy smile you deserve.

Think about your wisdom teeth: Occasionally, wisdom teeth cause more injury than good. Talk to your dentist or orthodontist about the status of your wisdom teeth. Are they causing your teeth to be too crowded? This is a big step for teens who want to experience strong and successful oral health.

Consider orthodontic treatment: Having a crooked smile can be bothersome and awkward. It can also cause oral health issues If you have misaligned teeth, consider aligning them with braces or another type of orthodontic appliance. This will help you have an attractive smile for a lifetime.

Avoid tobacco products: Does tobacco use seem cool? It’s not—including for your oral health. If you use tobacco, your chances of falling victim to oral cancer increase and you can also suffer from an extremely unappealing and stained smile. So, it’s best to just avoid tobacco products altogether.
