Though you may feel that your chompers are invincible multitools that can achieve any task, we beg to differ. At Grant R Young DDS, we’ve seen enough patients know that using your chompers for anything other than grinding food can result in hurt or lost teeth and dental emergencies. Pay attention for the following things and shield your teeth with a small bit of defensive effort:
Playing contact sports without a mouthguard. Football, wrestling, and lacrosse can be exciting, but chest pads aren’t the only protective gear you should be wearing while playing. Without a mouthguard, playing these sports can do serious damage to your teeth. Make sure you’re wearing a good mouthguard before participating in any contact sports.
Wearing mouth jewelry. Mouth jewelry like lip rings or tongue piercings can cause split pearly whites if you’re not alert while eating or speaking. If you wear mouth jewelry, think about taking it out during your dining sessions; we don’t want you to suffer the pain of a chipped tooth!
Opening things with your mouth. The desire to open things with your chompers can be strong, but we ask that you practice patience! The time you retain by opening a package or a soda bottle is not worth the time you’ll spend fixing broken pearly whites. Be patient and wait until you can get the proper tool for the job.
If you have injured your teeth, we can help! Dental bonding, fillings, crowns, and veneers can help make your mouth look like new again. Give us a call at 715-845-6222 to set up a visit with our Wausau, Wisconsin staff. Dr. Grant R Young and the team at Grant R Young DDS will be pleased to see you.
